Races

The sentient races of Koth include, but are not limited to,

Humans – are associated with no known language, or rather, with all of them. Forces for adaptability and change wherever they go, some blame them for the diaspora of languages on Koth, as human-dominated communities have been known to change modes of speech within a single lifespan of some of the longer-lived races.

Dwarfs – Due to their subterranean tendencies, many dwarven cultures have long-standing traditions of opposing Outsiders. Terran languages are common among the Dwarves.

Elves – Often among the best-traveled of the races of Koth, and many older elves will speak at least one trade tongue (commonly Sojourn). Many Elven languages are Vente based.

Half-Elves – Due to their mixed natures, many half-elves take up nomadic existences early and often. They are common sights along merchant trade routes, and as likely as anyone to speak something obscure.

Eladrin – Most speak a Sidhe tongue; they are more commonly found in the North.

Halflings – Many grow up near rivers, and as such eventually find their ways downstream to the Twilit Sea. Though most halfling communities will speak an Aquan tongue, many halflings meeting a strange halfling for the first time will essay an attempt at Salt.

Dragonborn – Often found in the South, even northern communities will sometimes speak a Pyre-based tongue. Vulgar Draconic is found less commonly than might be expected.

Tieflings – In communities, they tend to favor odder tongues such as Morte, Sidhe, or Pyre. Though there are regions in which their appearance is met with distrust, there are equally many where they are viewed in a positive light. They rarely fail to attract attention.
