Known by the Draconic name of Diatryma or the common nickname ‘sword-beak’, these monsters are similar to large, predatory ostriches. Judged by some to be an avian relative of certain families of drakes, they are armed with long, sharp beaks. Some wild varieties, particularly those living near Feybright zones, also possess large toe talons. They are swift runners over flat ground and nimble enough to inhabit many mountainous regions too precipitous for other large predators.
In the Camposasul region, the Phororhacos are largely domesticated and commonly serve as mounts and guard animals, with an occasional ex-soldier hitching one to his plow. The totem animal of the Phororhacos is given Vassal status to Gararl, the guardian wolf.
